🐝 A Note from Darcy - The Little Things Add Up

Camera, travel journal and coffee overlooking a coastal village at sunset, capturing the joy of collecting meaningful travel moments.

November always seems to bring gratitude into focus.

Of course, I'm thankful for the places I've visited and the opportunities I've had to explore the world. But when I think about what stays with me, it's often the smaller moments.

The people I've shared experiences with. Unexpected discoveries. Conversations with strangers. A meal that became a favorite memory. Even the things that didn't go according to plan but gave me a story to tell later.

I'm thankful for the experiences that have shaped me, the lessons I've learned along the way, and the people who continue to be part of my journey.

That includes you.

Whether we've planned a trip together, connected through a shared love of travel, or you're simply here looking for a little inspiration, I'm grateful you've found your way to Honeycomb Hollow Travel Co.

Here's to appreciating where we've been, enjoying where we are, and looking forward to wherever life takes us next.

Destination Spotlight

New York City: Finding Your Own Little Corners of the Big Apple

Autumn street in New York City with brownstone buildings, a flower-filled bicycle, and the Empire State Building in the distance.

New York City is one of those destinations that never feels quite the same twice.

I've visited several times and even lived there briefly, yet there's always another neighborhood to explore, a restaurant to try, or a little shop waiting to be discovered.

I love Broadway, of course. And Central Park is one of my favorite places to trade the city's energy for a little breathing room.

But I also love the everyday New York moments.

Finding a coffee shop with a window seat and watching the world go by. Wandering into a paper store. Grabbing a cookie from Schmackary's, something sweet from Magnolia Bakery, or the tots at 5 Napkin Burger.

New York is a city of neighborhoods, and each has its own personality. You can spend a morning exploring the West Village, an afternoon wandering through Central Park, and an evening enjoying a Broadway show.

Or you can spend an entire day discovering one little corner of the city.

A few ways to experience NYC:

  • For the theater lover: Build a getaway around Broadway, with time for a pre-show dinner and a little exploring between performances.

  • For the food lover: Explore neighborhood restaurants, bakeries, markets, and culinary experiences beyond the familiar landmarks.

  • For the curious wanderer: Choose a neighborhood, put on comfortable shoes, and see where the day takes you.

  • For the first-time visitor: Mix the iconic sights with quieter moments so you experience more than just the highlights.

My NYC tip: Don't underestimate how much time it takes to get around Manhattan. Group activities by neighborhood and leave room to enjoy what you discover along the way.

New York isn't a destination you have to conquer in one visit. In fact, I think that's part of its appeal.

There's always a reason to come back.

🍯 A Bit O’Honey

Planning Around the Busiest Travel Days

Traveling around a holiday or school break? A little extra planning can make a big difference.

Airports, highways, popular attractions, and hotels tend to be busier when everyone has the same time off.

A few things worth considering:

Look at the dates around the holiday. Shifting your departure or return by a day or two may open up better flight schedules or pricing.

Allow more time for connections. Tight connections leave little room for weather, congestion, or unexpected delays.

Reserve popular experiences early. Holiday performances, special dining experiences, and timed-entry attractions can fill up.

Build in flexibility. A little breathing room is especially valuable when travel is busy.

And remember, the least expensive flight isn't always the best choice if it comes with an inconvenient schedule or a stressful connection.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

A Gift That Goes Somewhere

Looking for something different for the traveler on your gift list? Consider contributing toward a special experience on a trip they already have planned. A memorable meal, excursion, or a little spending money can be just as meaningful as a wrapped present.

Think Beyond the Calendar Year

If you're dreaming about a river cruise, a milestone celebration, or a popular destination in 2027, now is a good time to begin exploring options. Some experiences are worth planning well in advance, especially when dates or accommodations are important.

Don't Forget the Details

Before an international trip, check your passport's expiration date and your destination's entry requirements. Some countries require additional passport validity beyond your travel dates, and requirements can change.

On My Planning Radar

Looking Ahead to 2027

It's easy to think of travel planning as something that begins a few months before departure. But some trips benefit from a longer runway.

If any of these are on your wish list, it's worth starting the conversation:

River Cruises: Popular itineraries, sailing dates, and preferred cabin categories can be worth securing well in advance.

Milestone Celebrations: Anniversaries, birthdays, honeymoons, and retirement trips often involve specific dates or experiences you don't want to miss.

Family and Group Travel: Coordinating schedules, room arrangements, and preferences takes time, especially when several households are involved.

Peak-Season Destinations: School holidays, summer travel, and special events can create higher demand for flights and accommodations.

You don't need every detail figured out before you begin. Sometimes the first step is simply deciding what kind of experience you'd like to have.

🛍️ Sweet Find

A Little Peace of Mind for Your Suitcase

Nobody wants to be the person rearranging their suitcase at the airport check-in counter.

That's one reason a digital luggage scale is such a practical travel accessory.

It's compact, easy to pack, and lets you check your bag's weight before heading to the airport. Especially helpful when you're bringing home a few souvenirs!

It's one of the items in my personal collection of travel finds.

DARCY’S MATCHMAKING CORNER

Which New York City Getaway Is Your Match?

One of my favorite things about New York City is how many different experiences you can have in one destination.

The Culture Collector

Your ideal day includes a museum, an interesting neighborhood, a leisurely dinner, and Broadway tickets waiting for you that evening.

The Curious Wanderer

You'd rather discover a little shop, try a neighborhood café, and see where the day takes you than follow a minute-by-minute schedule.

The Food Explorer

Your itinerary revolves around restaurants, bakeries, food markets, and the question, "Where should we eat next?"

The Classic New Yorker (at Heart)

You want Central Park, a few iconic landmarks, a great show, and time to soak up the city's unmistakable energy.

Of course, you don't have to choose just one. That's the beauty of a thoughtfully planned getaway.

The best NYC itinerary is the one that feels like you.

Travel bag and sun hat resting on stone steps overlooking rolling countryside at golden sunset, suggesting journeys still to come.

✍🏻 ONE MORE THING…Collect Moments, Not Just Miles

Some journeys take us halfway around the world. Others are a weekend away, a familiar destination seen differently, or an afternoon spent exploring somewhere new.

They all have something to offer.

As the year begins winding down, I hope you find a little time for the people, places, and experiences that bring you joy.

And perhaps a little inspiration for the journeys still to come.
